Philippe Starck's Vision

KONG, a landmark restaurant in Paris, owes much of its identity to the creative vision of Philippe Starck and Laurent Taïeb. Their collaboration gave birth to a space where design and art blend seamlessly, offering guests a truly unique visual experience.

Philippe Starck, an internationally acclaimed designer, is known for his avant-garde approach and his talent for transforming spaces into functional works of art. For KONG, he envisioned a futuristic decor combining Parisian and Japanese influences, echoing the restaurant’s culinary fusion. Design elements like the transparent Louis Ghost chairs and the sleek-lined tables contribute to an atmosphere that is both chic and relaxed.

The use of modern materials and neutral tones gives the space a timeless elegance, while bold touches—such as patterns inspired by Japanese manga—add a playful and contemporary edge. This juxtaposition of elements creates a unique atmosphere, emblematic of Starck’s signature style. The faces featured on the Kartell Louis Ghost chairs, with their mysterious expressions, invite contemplation and add emotional depth to the dining experience.

Philippe’s architectural design provides the perfect backdrop for the artistic expression of Ara, who created a mural on the back wall of the restaurant—each element complementing the other to deliver a cohesive and immersive experience. This fusion of design and art helps make KONG an iconic destination on the Parisian scene.
