Laurent Taïeb’s Vision
The story of KONG begins with Laurent Taïeb, a visionary entrepreneur known for his pioneering approach to creating lifestyle destinations. Following the success of his previous ventures, including the restaurants Bon and Bon 2, Taïeb set out to create an innovative space that would blend gastronomy with bold design. His ambition was clear: to craft a venue that defied convention and offered guests a fully immersive experience.
Collaboration with Philippe Starck
To bring this vision to life, Taïeb teamed up with renowned designer Philippe Starck. Famous for his avant-garde creations, Starck brought a distinctive touch to the project. The two had already collaborated on the restaurant Bon, and their creative synergy promised another standout achievement.
Official Opening
After two years of monumental work, KONG officially opened its doors in 2003. Perched atop the Kenzo building, the restaurant offers panoramic views of Paris, including the Pont Neuf and the Seine. From its grand opening, KONG captivated guests with its daring design and cosmopolitan atmosphere, attracting a mix of local patrons and international visitors.
